Physical Poetry.

As I was finishing my yoga set tonight, a lovely idea developed in my mind… What if yoga is a physical form of poetry? At the beginning of every set, I unroll my yoga mat as if it’s a paper scroll, I begin to express myself physically/spiritually/emotionally without words (through performative actions), embodying postures with specific names that are traced within certain yogic traditions/histories – all the while expressing them with my own body and perceptions – and then I roll up my scroll after finishing the sequence.

“Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash.” – Leonard Cohen.
